FAQs:
IS PERMANENT MAKEUP REALLY PERMANENT?
Permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because pigment is tattooed into the upper dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement. The amount of time until a color re-enhancement is needed varies greatly from person to person but is typically 12 - 24 months. The fact that most people will require periodic color refreshing of their permanent cosmetics offers the opportunity to work with your technician to reevaluate your overall appearance profile and determine if any changes are appropriate. You likely have made subtle or dramatic changes in your clothing preferences, hair color/style, and makeup colors through the years, and periodic maintenance allows you to adjust the permanent makeup over time to stay relevant with your tastes and preference. Pigment longevity varies from person to person depending on their lifestyle (sun exposure), the color(s) used for the permanent cosmetic procedure, skin type, and also may be affected by topical products applied to the skin.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Anyone over 18 who has the ability to heal properly from minor wounds can benefit from the liberating benefits of permanent cosmetics as an enhancement to their appearance. Interest in this service spans all age groups. It is especially valuable to people who can’t wear traditional cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities; active people who want to look their best for sports activities such as swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics; and those who don’t want to worry about “sweating off” or reapplying cosmetics. Permanent makeup also benefits anyone who experiences challenges applying traditional cosmetics due to vision problems or dexterity-related conditions. It's also great for busy people who don’t want to spend time applying and refreshing makeup throughout the day and evening.
WHAT SHOULD I COMMUNICATE TO MY ARTIST TO ENSURE A SUCCESSFUL PROCEDURE?
Communication is the key to a successful outcome. If you are sure of the look you are going for you can wait to tell your artist at the time of your appointment without a consultation ahead of time. If you're unsure of what will be most successful and looking for guidance ahead of time please come in for a free consultation so that you can work through options and have confidence going into the procedure. Our artist has a degree in cosmetology and is very knowledgeable about selecting color tones and creating flattering eyebrow shapes. She will be more than happy to make suggestions to help you achieve your desired look. You can help her by letting her know the final look you are after (anything from natural/no makeup to very dramatic) and an idea of your preferred color tones (though she will assess whether those tones will be successful with your skin/hair undertones and advise accordingly). If the design and/or color requested by the client is not likely to be successful, she may decline to perform the procedure. A good example of this is pencil-thin eyebrows which are never able to look natural because there is not enough room in the design to create realistic hair-strokes.
HOW MUCH DOES IT HURT?
Pain tolerance will vary from person to person, but in general permanent cosmetic procedures are minimally invasive and relatively pain-free. During the procedures a numbing cream will be used, so as the pigment is being applied you are not likely to feel anything other than a slight tickling sensation or light pressure. As the numbing cream wears off, sensation may deepen to a stinging feeling (similar to a sunburn) and the area may swell slightly. Usually these symptoms subside within a few hours, and should not affect you going about a normal routine for the rest of your day. The provided aftercare information includes tips on how to minimize discomfort during the healing process.
WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS LIKE?
Each cosmetic tattooing procedure has a distinct healing time and aftercare protocol. Healing will proceed through a distinct process which we will go over in detail during your appointment. At the end of your service we will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and everything you need to heal properly and to ensure the best possible results. If you have specific questions, please call or stop by during consultations to talk with our permanent makeup artist.
